Sony Pictures and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shattering records at warp speed. After a historic $355M – $360M domestic opening weekend — the second-biggest opening ever behind Avengers: Endgame [$357.1M] and ahead of No Way Home [$260.1M] — the Tom Holland-led sequel is showing zero signs of slowing down.
On Tuesday, Brand New Day swung to an estimated $42 million at the U.S. box office alone, setting a new all-time Tuesday record in North America and pushing the film past $100 million in pre-opening sales on Tuesday alone before its official weekend began, according to EntTelligence.
The surge has vaulted the film to $1.1 billion worldwide, making it officially the biggest film globally year-to-date in 2026, surpassing Toy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
The numbers are staggering:
Domestic: $355M opening weekend from 4,487 locations, averaging $79,117 per theater, with 24.1 million patrons — eclipsing No Way Home as the only film since October 2020 to draw over 20M moviegoers on opening weekend.
Global Debut: $927M worldwide in its first weekend alone, including $573M from 66 international markets — the second-highest global debut ever behind Endgame.
Breaking Endgame: The film also broke an Endgame record on day one, with $72M in Thursday previews — the biggest preview night in history.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi), and starring Tom Holland and Zendaya in their fourth outing as Peter Parker and MJ, along with Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink, the film is resonating as more than spectacle.
Sony reports a Certified Fresh 90% critics score, 98% Popcornmeter, A CinemaScore, and 5-star PostTrak ratings.
Sony Motion Picture Group Chairman Tom Rothman called it “fundamentally a movie about friendship, about the balm of connection,” while producer Amy Pascal added that its success reinforces that “moviegoers are hungry for stories that are both spectacular and deeply human.”
With IMAX, Dolby, and premium formats still sold out across the country, and China delivering over $100M+ of its international total, Brand New Day is now tracking to become 2026’s first $2B global grosser.
Hollywood’s 2026 box office is now up 15.2% year-to-date at $6.195 billion — and Spider-Man is leading the charge.
