Harry Styles spilled the tea on his new track, “American Girls,” during an Apple Music chat with Zane Lowe, and get this – it was inspired by his friends’ weddings! Turns out, it’s not quite the upbeat bop some might expect.

“Honestly, ‘American Girls’ is a pretty lonely song,” Styles admitted. He shared how watching his three best pals tie the knot made him reflect. “Seeing them just trust and risk everything to find something truly fulfilling… it’s not as flashy or exciting on paper as, say, being single and ‘having all the fun,’ which is what I thought I was doing.”

He went on to say, “The song is really about watching them get married and realizing there’s a real magic when you find that right person you want to build a life with.” Styles mused about the vulnerability of truly sharing your life with someone and how important it is to step back, take a “bird’s eye view” of your own life, and figure out what you really want. He highlighted the challenge of making space for those deep connections when you’re constantly on the go, touring, and busy with everything else. “It’s hard to pull those things in without making space for them,” he explained.

Sounds like Harry’s getting a little introspective!
