The Final Solution
By Philip A. Kumin
The cosmic circumstance of mental patients is akin to a solar system of drifting elements. Stultification, drudgery of the status quo, vulnerability and victimization, and unpreparedness orbit around within this realm and risk congealing into a perfect storm of demise for patients. Has there ever before in history been such a miasma?
Yes, the above depiction is considerably ethereal, maybe even frightening. And there actually is a way of sopping up some of that ambiguity. Our, “mop,” would be what’s known as a, “lawsuit.”
The debate about whether or not there’s a medical model for mental illness, or whether the chemical imbalance theory is relevant, has been going on for years. I don’t think there’s ever going to be any end to this fighting. But what we can’t afford to allow to get lost therein, is the fact that patients’ lives are being obliterated by drug company efforts to get rich. Lawyers use the excuse that airtight proof of this scandal has to be obtained before they would be likely to have any success for us in the courtroom. But the proof is in the pudding here. Anybody who turns on the TV or goes to the movies sees drug company efforts to line their pockets by defaming patients.
And the lawyers aren’t doing anything to bring this to the public’s attention. Not. One. Thing.
