The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office ruled their deaths a homicide, citing “multiple sharp force injuries” as the cause of death. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder .

Nick Reiner, who has struggled with mental health issues and addiction, was reportedly being treated for schizophrenia at the time of the incident. He is being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, where he is on suicide watch. His arraignment is scheduled for January 7, 2026 .
