Author Andrzej Sapkowski, who wrote the eight novels and short-story collections known as The Witcher Saga, will serve as creative consultant. “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over 30 years writing,” he said in a statement. “I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

The Witcher Saga centers on a group of hunters known as “Witchers” who are blessed with supernatural abilities at a young age. Throughout the series, the witchers battle deadly monsters while honing their abilities.

The hit action role-playing video game based on the stories debuted in 2007 from CD Projekt RED and Atari, following Geralt, one of the few remaining Witchers.

Sean Daniel (The Mummy, The Expanse) and Jason Brown (The Expanse) will serve as executive producers, with Tomek Baginski (The Cathedral) and Jarek Sawko (The Fallen Art, Another Day of Life) on board as producers.

It’s not clear as to what the series will follow just yet. Daniel and Brown were excited to bring the series to the screen, however. “The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”
