As we go through life, there are moments when we can indeed partake in la dolce vita, or the sweet life. The end of summer or early fall comes to mind and sitting on the back porch drinking a glass of wine while listening to the music of the wind blowing through the leaves on the trees. We should remember that every day holds this gift, or la vita e un dono–life is a gift. The inspiration for this shoot is the simple luxuries of enjoying a fall afternoon.

The scene was set in a historic home in Downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. Its carefully manicured garden and rustic courtyard played as the perfect backdrop for this shoot. The greens, the golds, the red brick, and charcoal gray helped the florals and feathered detail on the clothing pop.

Stylist and designer, Dara Sophia Romero of Hopeless + Cause Atelier, was inspired by and flipped the script on the 50’s housewife. Hair artist, Amanda Serafin, created intricate yet purposefully messy updos and make-up artist, Ramiro Cardenas left the make-up light and almost iridescent to attract the light. While the location and the hair and make up reflected this vibe, Dara juxtaposed the look with models who wore beautifully elaborate tattoos as to create a double-take on those wholesome looks. Photographer, Sofia Jaureguiberry, positioned models, Crystal Ortiz and Chantelle Fawn, in dramatic poses and played with the contrast of the landscape and the fashion.

Hopeless + Cause Atelier is a social wear line with a social conscience and Dara utilizes upcycled, recycled and sustainable materials whenever possible to create affordable luxury. The Lefty Dress is a structured look and made of charcoal denim. With a little stretch, the material hugs the wearer’s curves nicely. The neckline is made up of cockatoo feathers from a friend’s bird. It is for the C-suite woman that doesn’t jive with any old suit. The look had to be paired with the right backdrop. Dara and Sofia opted for the courtyard, the symmetrically stacked brick wall and the old-world beauty of the fountain provided the right amount of drama and edginess to the look. When combined with the feminine flow of the Ivy Maxi-dress, it provided a glimpse of the multi-dimensions of women, as the provider and the nurturer.

The garden provided a sense of whimsy and the looks mirrored that. The Daisy Maxi-dress and the Rose Mini-dress again provided a feminine look to the garden with a tease of bare skin. While the linen pants and striped sweetheart corset provided a more modern and confined look, Crystal’s poses were powerful and playful at once.
