Well, here are the movies that made the cut:
Casino Royale – This Bond movie starring Daniel Craig is a firm fan favorite and for good reason. It features lots of action-filled scenes, frenzied car races, beautiful women aplenty and possibly the most famous gambling scene ever filmed. This is where Bond faces down Le Chiffre at the baccarat table and saves the world once again.
21 – This movie starring Kevin Spacey is based on a true story about the MIT Blackjack team which was made up of very talented individuals that went about winning frightful sums of money in Las Vegas casinos during the 80s and 90s. The movie provides some insight into card counting, features lots of adventure and romance and could teach players some tricks or two!
The Sting – This is a classic that was released back in 1973 and is still incredibly popular today. It features Paul Newman and Robert Redford as they try to get the best of a crime boss by outwitting him in sports betting. The plot is quite convoluted, the characters insanely memorable and the acting is top grade.
God Of Gamblers – Released in 1989 this cult classic stars Chow Yun Fat and Andy Lau. Chow plays the part of a very successful gambler who suffers an accident that tragically erases his memories. He then teams up with Little Knife (Andy Lau) and the two go on an orgy of fun-filled action, apart from partaking in some rather intense games.
Owning Mahowny – This movie is based on a true life story of a bank manager who has a gambling problem so severe that he steals money from the bank in order to feed his gambling demons. Soon, however, things start to unravel with furious speed and he gets in more trouble than a lobster caught in a trap! It stars Philip Hoffman in one of his finest performances and is a must-watch
Ocean’s Eleven – This is possibly one of the most famous gambling movies of all time and has a cast full of the most bankable stars. The plot revolves around a plan to rob three of the most famous Las Vegas casinos and the fun, action, and suspense found within is as heart-stopping as they come!
Rounders – This movie was released in 1998 and stars the then impossibly young Matt Damon. It is all about the world of high stakes poker games, and the effect it has on individuals and their relationships.
Runner, Runner – Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake co-star in this hit that aimed a searchlight at the early years of the online poker boom. The movie is quite informative and based in large part on the true story of an accountant who sought to expose cheats in the online poker rooms of the period.
Casino Royale – This was the first Casino Royale. It was released in 1967 and features David Niven as Bond. While it lacks the artistical abilities of the latter movie and was universally panned by critics, it still merits a place on this list and offers lots of cheesy fun that’s best enjoyed along with friends and family.
The House – Will Ferrell is the star of this hit comedy about a father who opens a casino in his basement so as to make up his daughters’ tuition fee, probably the days of smartphone casino was far-fetched at that time. It offers plenty of frenzied laughs and some gratuitous action scenes.
