What does the future hold? This editorial’s shoot was inspired by this year’s sci-fi movie, “Oblivion.” In 2077, after Earth’s near destruction by a nuclear war against alien invaders, surviving humans migrated to an orbital space outpost to rebuild their resources and maintain vital power stations.

Told through clothing, the story is kept simple and streamlined, depicting the delicate and surreal nature of what our future holds in a world of unknown. With hints of sculptural design and metallic finishes, the style of the future reveals itself through imminence and proximity. Sharp, jagged and metallic accessories on the face and hands foreshadow a high-tech world of weaponry that may become essential to survival. Texture was represented in different ways including tassels, gathered cotton and sheer cutouts.

Focusing on the eyes, makeup was used in a subtle yet commanding way, using shades of grey and metallic. This look is accentuated distinctively through the black-and-white imagery whilst enhancing an ethereal quality that is otherworldly. The hair was styled to convey a post-apocalyptic state, which must be sleek and modern without distraction.

By encompassing all of these elements, the editorial was supported by masterful lighting techniques that heightened the mood and feel of this futuristic scene. In a battle to save mankind, this journey of redemption and discovery leads to the oblivion.
