This Fashion Editorial, Found Love in a Graveyard, is a collaborative team project with 5 artists, Jen painter, Jonzu Jones, Catherine Philip, Selda Cortes, and Stephanie Albarracin. Graveyards are often looked at as morbid and sad. It is a resting place, the final resting place. It is the end place for everyone but a place surrounded by death is not all too bad. This is a place full of memory and stories. When we die who is to say that is the end? We leave behind legends and stories and in this place, the spirits of those no longer around in their physical form roam the grounds. There is beauty in the architecture of the tombstones and grounds. The willow trees and the nature adds to the beauty as well. This is a quiet serene place away from the chaos and madness of the corporate metropolis we call home. Inspired by the dark and strange beauty of the likes of Alexnder Mcqueen, Comme Des Garcons, Rick Owens, and Thom Browne, this I a story of a girl wondering the graveyard dressed in her Sunday best and looking for an escape.
The look of the photography is to portray serenity and beauty. Often times with stories in this setting, the overall look is very dark and sad but the portrayal is that this girl is contempt where she is and that she truly feels at peace in her surroundings. The hair and makeup chosen for the story gives her a very ethereal look. We wanted the overall loo to be edgy and gothic but still dreamy and romantic. As the stylist, I wanted to create a style that was very Tim Burton. Tim Burton is known for creating romantic yet gothic stories and imagery. I wanted to play around with glamorous evening wear and mix them with deconstructed and avant garde pieces. For Catherine, we wanted her to model in a way that was very soft and ethereal. We did not want anything that was to hard or edgy pose wise. Catherine really did a great job playing her character and fit perfectly with the story.
The sunny weather also added to the serenity of the story rather than a dark and gloomy day which would have been a bit cliché. The title of this editorial was inspired by the Veronica falls song from their self-titled album. This Story was shot on location at Quaker Cemetery and Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York. Clothing and Accessories were provided by Kristi Vosbeck, Joshua Homic, Brian Lane, Eleen Halvorsen, Williamson PR, Rep PR, Albright Fashion Library, Mercura, and Natasha Wozniak.
