This series was inspired by they way women were taught to perceive the perfect world in position with reality. With a nostalgic mood and warm colors representing the woman in a fantasy old fashioned world.

Karen Navarro is a highly talented photographer based in Houston, U.S. She was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she studied Fashion Design at the University of Buenos Aires. Her interest in photography began at the age of 18 years while doing a photography project for high school. But it was not until 2014 that she decided to start her journal as a fashion photographer.
She has always been influenced by fashion and art, her grandmother was a dressmaker and her grandfather, who she did not have the chance to meet, he liked to draw.

Her work has been featured in various publications and showcased around the U.S. such as the Houston Center for Photography, Juried by The Museum of Fine Art, Houston.

What do you think is the most important thing to remember when you are pursuing a (creative) passion?

Be perseverant. Time is everything! If you truly love what you do, keep going, it will show off with time.

What does your creative process look like, from preparation to final edit?

I always start with a feeling or a mood, a dream of a color palette. I do sketch the pictures in my mind and sometimes on paper. On set, I always try to get the picture that was in my mind, but I also improvise. The best result happens when you do not plan it! You just flow.

What do you love most about photography?

I love the chance I have in photography to create my own worlds, it allows me to express self-referential questions. In my work, I create surreal scenes through the use of color and minimalist details

Who is your own favorite photographer?

Gregory Crewdson. Without a doubt! I love how he creates everything in the pictures, from the most minimal details to the final image.

What are you most inspired by?

Light! When I see light and shadow it blows my mind. I am also inspired by art, movies and just a simple scene with color and shapes that I can find in the diary live.

Besides your favorite photographer, who else are you most inspired by?

People who from nothing built an exceptional career. People who work hard for their dreams and do not fear to fail.

When creating an image, what do you pay the most attention to?

Everything, I’m a perfectionist, details matter! But also the mood of the picture, it has to show what I’m trying to say.

What part of yourself do you think is most present in your images and your style?

The sensibility and self-referential questions.

Do you have any tips for other young photographers who want to work in this business?

Do what do you love most, do not be afraid to fail, we learn from our failures. Do it from your heart, don’t try to imitate.

Best advice have you ever been given with regards to your profession?

Do not know if someone has marked me with an advice. Be authentic is to cliche, though true. But I take criticism very well, it makes me want to be better.

What are you working on right now?

I am currently working on some editorials, that soon I will be sharing.
