“Color Explosion” is a fashion editorial depicting the transition from winter to spring. Keeleigh and Angel are young models who are also talented ballerinas, so I wanted to combine colorful dance elements with couture makeup looks, while allowing the models to express themselves freely.
Janet Herrera is an amazing makeup artist that I’ve worked with several times before. She is fantastic at bringing visions to life, and is a pleasure to collaborate with. We wanted makeup colors that captured the bright colors of a new spring, while complementing the features of each model, and Janet did a great job.
The first series of shots we did were studio looks. Janet created the multi-color couture looks for each model that we captured through head shots. Next, we did flowing powder looks with gels to capture different variations of color, light and form. We wanted to capture powder shots that are reminiscent of a butterfly emerging from a cocoon, as well as integrating both girls’ ballet expertise.
We then transitioned to an outdoor shoot, where we brought in hand made flower crowns to echo the spring theme. The weather was cold, and the water in the stream was frigid, so we worked quickly. Everyone was a pleasure to work with, and I’m sure you’ll see much more of Keeleigh and Angel in the future, in both modeling and dance.
