Katarzyna Niwińska – a photographer, living in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe – Cracow, Poland is working as a fashion photographer. In her art, she’s trying to get an unconventional image of the subject, inspired by music (especially from film sound tracks) and also the history of art. Every photo shoot it’s a new adventure and a challenge to create something beautiful and unique. In most cases, she is preparing special scenography and elements of stylization of shoots with her own hands, always taking care to fit the photographed projects together to form one cohesive story. She’s publishing her art in European and American magazines.

“Alegria” is another result of SnowBlack Corsets and Katarzyna Niwińska’s cooperation.
The photographers’ inspiration, besides a beautiful lace corset made by Snow Black, was a song called “Allegria” by Canadian Cirque du Soleil. Alegría takes its name from the Spanish word for “joy” and is a name of one of the most popular shows of the Cirque. This song, sung in Italian and English by a singer in white, it’s an invitation for the audience to the world of Alegría. In Snow Black and Katarzyna Niewińska’s project “Alegria” is not a world, it’s a person. Connection of a lace corset, the song “Alegria” and a storm of words (lightness, elegance, delicacy, lace, white, sleep, innocence, and dreams) crystallizedas an idea about the world of dreams and the White Guardian named alegria.

The whole stylization was carefully thought out, from a hairstyle decorated wooden ship, inspired by XVII century original coiffure named Pouf, derived from the court of Louis XVI, and popularized by Queen Marie Antoine (not to be confused with the style of Madame de Pompadour), beautifully made by Anna Kołodziejczyk, namely pink – purple delicate make up, which stands out with overwhelming heavy sleep, a white and beautiful face of our model, and an old-fashioned frame hanging in the background scenery. We have put on a white, silver and gray cream with ivory, because these colors bounce off the light and are opalescent. To obtain a contrast with the featured blue butterflies (Years ago, when Katarzyna was reading one of her favorite comic books – Thorgal by Jean van Hamme and Grzegorz Rosiński, she found there an idea of human souls in the form of butterflies and she fell in love with this idea. Personifications in the form of butterflies and moths are a common theme in her work), green smog, golden frame and pink – purple make up animates the whole picture, which, left in white only could be bland. Hand-made, white, decorated with lace dress and Point shoes it corresponds with the corset worn by the model.

A perfect girl for this magical project was a young pretty model from Toruń called Silver.
Besides her natural predisposition as white and silver hair, she has a chameleon nature, which amazingly is able to melt with her outlined figure. Also the professionalism and her acting skills have caused that images are 100% compatible with the intentions.
On the shoot, she was a real Algeria.

In this editorial, the point was to create a picture that looks like a moment in your dreams in the moment of waking up. The heroine is Alegria – a beautiful and elusive creature guarding peace in the World of Our Dreams presented in the form of blue butterflies. The Ship on her head has referred to the trip which we take to the land, whenever we fall asleep. The Lord of Dreams, Morfeus has sent a magical wind which fills the ships sails during this magical voyage.  With the help of a butterfly net, the Guardian is catching dreams, herding them and letting them into our dreams.

Snow Black Corsets

Before I start working on a new corset I sit down and brainstorm ideas – fabrics I own or have seen films, paintings, music, moods or people… Sometimes the idea is just there and all I need to do is make it reality. Sometimes I just start sewing and go with the flow, waiting for the final product to emerge. I can call the grey corset a tribute to Bogna/Silverrr. I had made it before our first meeting and I believe it had always been meant for her. It was the effect of this ‘inner feeling’ which made me sew this icy cold, curvy corset. It is not only the shade and delicate lace that somehow emphasize Bogna’s distinctive feature – her hair. It’s also the feminine shape that ideally corresponds with all her work so far. Inspiration, design, outcome – this is the key when it comes to corset making.
